Punt: an ancient civilization rediscovered

A Northern Somali woman from the northeastern Puntland region of Somalia (Majerteen Darod clan). Genome analysis indicates that, on average, Northern Somalis born in Puntland carry the most Eurasian ancestry among Afro-Asiatic speakers in the Horn of Africa. This non-African ancestry is comparable in frequency to that borne by North African individuals (cf. Osman and Jonasson, Fig. S1). These results concur with the view that the Punt of yore, which was a sibling civilization to ancient Egypt, was situated in the Horn.
