Note the close resemblance with the ancient Puntite figures depicted on the Egyptian temples. mtDNA analysis has found that the Cushitic-speaking Rendille, who today inhabit the Great Lakes region, have among the highest global frequencies of the I haplogroup. This West Eurasian maternal lineage has also been observed among ancient Egyptian mummies. Since the Rendille are believed to have originated in Ethiopia, this finding aligns well with the hypothesis that ancient Punt was located in the Horn.
